  • Click on the options below and start designing your dream banjo! Order now and have your banjo finished in Fall 2020!

  • CHOOSE your FRETS
  • You will be able to choose your scale length and fretboard material further down. All frets are standard nickel silver and made specifically for banjos. Faux frets are simply inlayed walnut veneer inside the fret slots which is sanded flush to the fingerboard. It makes playing banjo without frets a little easier. All half fretless banjos come with a brass plate up to the 7th fret.

  • CHOOSE your SCALE LENGTH
  • Scale length is calculated by measuring the distance from the front edge of the nut, where it butts against the end of the fingerboard, to the center of the 12th (octave) fret, then doubling that measurement.

  • CHOOSE your FINGERBOARD
  • Persimmon is in the Ebony family and is a very hard and durable material. It will patina and turn darker with use and age. Richlite is a Recycled Paper and resin product that resembles Black Ebony almost identically. Richlite is also water proof and has been proven and tested as a fingerboard material for decades.

  • CHOOSE your WOOD
  • We recommend you choose your wood based on aesthetics. While there are tonal differences between the wood options, they are subtle. Click Here to find out more about the differences. Curly Maple availability will vary depending on supply.

  • CHOICE of Head stock
  • Quilted star inlay only available at this time.

  • CHOICE of Scoop
  • The S-Scoop allows for more room for your thumb while playing clawhammer. 17 frets for standard and short scale scooped necks and 15 frets for A-scales. Fully fretted standard and short scales have 22 frets. Fully fretted A-scale necks have 19 frets.

  • CHOOSE your Heel
  • Both of these heel choices are very traditional. Choose based on your personal preference. Please note if you choose the vintage heel, the heel cap will match your fingerboard choice.

  • CHOOSE your Head
  • Different head material affect tone greatly. Click Here for more information.

  • CHOOSE your Rim Size
  • 11" rims produce a brighter more focused tone. 12" have a full, open tone with more mellowness. Tone will very greatly depending on head material and tone ring.

  • CHOOSE your Rim Material
  • Metal rims can only come with or without a Dobson tone ring. The brass and copper options will come aged. The metal clad rims are heavier than the wood rims and reflect and project tone more than the wood rims. All metal clad rims come with stained black wood inside rim material.

  • CHOOSE your Tone Ring
  • Tone rings affect sound, volume and tone. Learn more about the difference between each tone ring option

  • CHOOSE your HARDWARE
  • Raw brass will age over time. Nickel hardware is clean and traditional, but needs to be wiped down with a clean rag at the end of each use to keep it looking shiny and new. Aged brass is the “no maintenance” option and looks 100 years new right out of the box.

  • CHOOSE your CASE
  • All cases come with a lifetime warranty. The access stage one cases have nice thick padding and are the best soft cases on the market that won't break the bank. Only the Access stage one cases come with PBCO logo.

  • CHOOSE your Wire Arm Rest
  • These armrests give a traditional look while making it more comfortable to play.

  • CHOOSE your Tailpiece
  • For a simple look, choose the minimalist tailpiece. The Pisgah Hawktail was designed by us in order to create more downward pressure on the bridge and head, making the banjo more responsive and enhancing the tone.

  • CHOOSE your Bridge
  • The standard maple bridge has Ebony top. The Mulheron bridge is made out of walnut with a persimmon tip and has a continuous leg and won't "sag" over time. Because of this, it also eliminates overtones and produces a mellow clear tone.

  • CHOOSE your Strings
  • Choose between metal strings and gut strings. The PBCO clawhammer banjo metal strings are specifically designed for most clawhammer players. Gut strings produce a plunky and mellow tone, and are low in volume. They are traditionally used in minstrel-style playing.

  • CHOOSE your Extras
  • The Banjo Tweaker comes with a 5/16" deep well socket perfect for adjusting bracket nuts. The tool also has a flat head screw driver to remove dowel stick hardware if taking banjo apart. It also has a phillips head screw driver for anything not banjo related. Don't leave home without it!
